21 Day

Described as a ‘city of blood, dreams and gold’, Yangon is branded with a turbulent history but today burgeons in fresh optimism, and is the starting point of your Myanmar holiday.

After visiting the pagodas of Bagan, guests will board the luxurious Sanctuary Ananda to be taken up the Ayeyarwaddy River to the royal city of Mandalay. You will visit the ancient capitals of Amarapura and Ava, the court of the latter renown for its barbarity in Victorian drawing rooms.

At Pyin Oo Lwin guests will board the train to the Gokteik Viaduct which was the largest railway trestle bridge in the world when constructed in 1899. At the Green Hill Valley Camp outside Kalaw you can feed and bathe elephants retired from the timber trade.

On the banks of Inle Lake travellers can wander through markets populated by the colourfully clad ethnic groups from the Shan Hills, reminiscent of, as one spellbound enthusiast put it, ‘wind-stirred tulip beds or a stir about of rainbows’.

The holiday concludes on the white sand beaches of Ngapali looking out over the Bay of Bengal.
