Ancient Empires

View full itinerary as PDF

On this six day trip one of our guides will take you back in time to explore the history of Imperial Burma and the City States that occupied this land before the ‘Myanma’ founded the Bagan Empire.

After visiting Bago, the site of the Mon Kingdom of Hanthawaddy, you will be taken up into the heart of the country to stay in the sleepy town of Pyay on the Ayeyarwaddy River. On Day Two you will visit Sri Ksetra (known to the Burmese as Thayekhittaya), the ruins of an ancient Pyu Civilisation and Myanmar’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will travel yet further back in time on Day Three, visiting the remains of Beikthano, the site of an ancient Hindu city.

You will next visit the town of Natmauk. This is the birthplace of General Aung San, the architect of Burmese Freedom and father of modern Myanmar. After lunch in nearby Magwe you will travel to the serene Lei Tha Gone Guest House to be left at your leisure. The trip will round off by catching the train to Bagan, here to spend a day and a night in the Scorched Empire of the Anawratha.
