View full itinerary as PDF

16 Day

The Sampan Green Tour aims to show travellers some of the beautiful aspects of the Myanmar landscape and meet people striving to preserve and sustain the environment and the people who work closely with it. All the time travelling as sustainably as possible, the Green Tour will also introduce you to organisations working to make Myanmar not only a better place to visit, but a better place to live.

The tour begins in Mandalay. You will be taken up the Ayeyarwaddy River to meet and stay with fishermen who take part in co-operative fishing with the indigenous Irrawaddy Dolphins. After exploring by bicycle the ancient capital of Amarpura, you will journey to Inle Lake. Here you will meet people of the Pa'O ethnic group as well as those of the Danu. In Pindaya you will spend time with the Beekeepers Plan Bee, before journeying to see the organic coffee plantations of Ywangan.

In Yangon you will visit various social enterprises working with marginalized youth and local artisans. You will also spend a day and a night at the Moe Yun Gyi wetlands and cross the river to meet the potters of Twante.
