Coffee is comparatively new to Myanmar. The quality of the Burmese bean suffered under the military junta and just five years ago the vast majority of the coffee produced in the country was only good enough for the three-in-one coffee mix sachets.
Now, with the support of international experts, small hold farmers have been trained to grow high-quality “specialty” coffee which is sent to the US.
