Asia Whale

With their smaller and more stripped back vessels, Asia Whale take travellers in Myanmar throughout the sprawling waterways of the Ayeyarwaddy Delta as well as the environs of Yangon and the old Mon capital Bago.

Embarking at Yangon, past paddy nurseries and cashew plantations one can cruise down to the beaches of Chaungtha and Ngwe Saung to enjoy seafood BBQs on Myanmar’s ‘Silver Coast’. Alternatively one can head north to Bago, home to Shwemawdaw Paya - the largest pagoda in the country - and the ruins of the ancient Hanthawaddy Kingdom. From here one can sail back to Yangon via the small town of Twante and the Oh-Bo pottery village.

Asia Whale also takes scuba divers out to the myriad islands of the Mergui Archipelago. Much of Mergui’s reef is untouched and offers opportunities for both beginners and seasoned divers. High Rock is one of the best locations for macro fans with its assortment of nudibranches, seahorses and bearded scorpionfish. At the aptly named Shark Cave, divers can swim amongst some of the best marine life to be found in the archipelago including silversides, starfish and harlequin shrimp. Daredevils can approach the huge canyon which leads to a 20 metre-long cave, often patrolled by a pack of grey reef sharks.

Asia Whale partner with the company Sakura who can take guests to visit the mangrove forests and the glistening snorkelling locations about Star Turtle Island. Visitors can stay on Angel Island in the company of little else save for the sand, the sea, and the sole resident family. Day trips to the Moken or ‘Sea Gypsy’ village on Done Island can also be arranged.
