21 Day
The Road from Mandalay 21 Day Journey is one of Sampan’s most expansive itineraries. It is an itinerary for those visitors who are well-travelled and are looking for the extraordinary in a journey; a journey that offers breadth, depth, and close-up interaction with Myanmar.
This is a journey for travellers that may have visited Burma years ago; maybe they have ancestors who once worked here. Either way, they are travellers who know about the country, have read and heard much on the history and culture, and now want to see it with their own eyes and feel it with their own hands.
This journey begins in Yangon before heading up to Mandalay, Burma’s last royal city. You will then be taken on an indulgent cruise down the Ayeyarwaddy towards Bagan - there will be fine food, fine wine, spectacular sunsets, and habitual forays into villages and towns along the way. You will be taken into Shan State, exploring Inle before embarking on a trek into the ethnic Pa’O territory - no "cultural shows" or force jollity! You will travel on to the former British Hill station of Kalaw to visit a retirement home for elephants from the timber trade before kicking-back with six days at Ngapali Beach.
DAY ONE This morning you will be greeted upon arrival at Yangon Airport and taken to your hotel in Yangon’s Embassy Quarter. DAY TWO Today you will be left at leisure to acclimatize and enjoy the resplendent garden of your hotel. DAY THREE Today your guide will take you into the heart of downtown Yangon, exploring Myanmar today through its morning markets, and Burma of yesteryear through the glorious colonial architecture. You will be taken to visit Sagaing, the kernel of Buddhism in Myanmar, as well as Amarapura and the serene U Bein Bridge.
